Completing a digital project charter in the first phase of a website project is very important. The goal of the digital project charter is to set the groundwork for a new website, identifying key pieces of the project that will be crucial when estimating the total cost of the project. It helps the clients think through and identify what their role will be in the process, and allows for Cornett to properly communicate important details both internally and externally. It can be referenced throughout the project when determining what is in scope or out of scope, timelines, key stakeholders, or risks that may effect parts of the project.
This should be completed with the client. The digital project manager and the Account Executive should fill it out and work with the client to fill in any missing details. Once filled out, all key stakeholders, both on the client side and internally at Cornett, in addition to any 3rd party partners, should review and give approval before the next phase of the digital project management process begins.
Here is the Cornett shared digital project charter template with hints. This should not be edited, rather it should be duplicated and saved as a new file name before customizing for individual projects.
